Banks

Banks are open Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 14:30. The are branches located all over the city but the nearest one is the Alpha Bank at the top of Halidon Street. The nearest machine to withdraw cash from is in the harbor square, on the wall, just beside Starbucks. The machine should accept your normal international cash point card.
There are also money changing facilities and Western Union in the harbor square. The Post Office, also have money exchange facilities but check their rates and commission charges first.

Post Office

Post boxes are painted  a distinctive yellow. We recommend that you use those in towns or at the Post Office branches as the tend to have more regular and reliable collections. The nearest yellow post box to us is the harbor square on the top left hand wall. One of the main Post Office branches is on Peridou Street in the new part of town. However, for stamps, ask first at the shops that sell postcards.

Telephone

Phone calls from public phones can be made only with phone cards. (tilekarta). These can be purchased from kiosks or mini-markets. The country code for Chania is +30 28210.

Tourist Office

“The Greek National Tourist Organization” is located on KON/NOU KRIARI Street. This street is located on the first street to the left as you walk on the left hand side of 1866 Square.

Food shops and street markets

There are two mini-market located on Theotokopoulou Street that are open every day until late in the evening. The nearest Carrefoure supermarket is at the top of Pireous Street just a 10 minute walk from us. Our local street market selling fruit, vegetables and clothing is held every Thursday and Saturday. Please ask fro directions as the location sometimes changes throughout the year.

Local bus timetables
